In this article Golf Course Industry magazine interviews several experts in the fertilizer field, including Dr. Eric Miltner, agronomist for Koch Turf & Ornamental. All of the experts interviewed agree on the importance of the right amount, right type and right timing of fertilizer applications which supports the 4R Nutrient Stewardship initiative by The Fertilizer Institute.

The article also touches on the importance of calibrating your fertilizer application equipment. Calibration is a step that can often be overlooked by busy professionals, yet it has a huge impact on proper fertilization.

Dr. Miltner recommends that golf course superintendents take a critical look at their current fertilization programs. Getting all the variable of right fertilizer source, right rate, right time, and right placement can be difficult. The enhanced efficiency fertilizers (EEFs) from Koch Turf & Ornamental, such as UMAXX® stabilized nitrogen, and NUTRALENE® slow-release fertilizer, can help make the equation a little easier. These fertilizers minimize nitrogen loss to the environment through volatilization, denitrification, leaching and runoff.
